Sheetz will open its ninth Lehigh Valley location at 8 a.m. Thursday, July 16, at the corner of Main Street (Route 412) and Kichline Avenue in Hellertown, completing a permitting and construction journey that stretched across several years and required initial approval from a skeptical borough council.
A Long Road to the Pumps
The Hellertown Sheetz cleared an uneven path before a single shovel broke ground. During early land-use hearings, borough council members expressed clear reservations about the project, one official remarked “our hands are tied” when the council granted preliminary authorization, signaling the approval came more from legal necessity than enthusiasm. Construction proceeded through much of 2025 before the opening was pushed into 2026.
The finished store sits directly across from the Interstate 78 East on- and off-ramps at Route 412, a location that positions it well for both Hellertown residents and the steady stream of commuters and through-traffic that moves through the corridor daily.
What Opens Thursday
Sheetz’s signature format, made-to-order food and drinks, fuel pumps, 24-hour convenience store, will be available when the location opens Thursday morning. The chain’s menu includes custom-built sandwiches, salads, specialty coffee drinks and snacks, all prepared at in-store kiosks. For Hellertown and Saucon Valley residents, the location offers the closest Sheetz access to date; the nearest existing locations require a drive into Bethlehem or beyond.
This will be the ninth Sheetz operating in the Lehigh Valley, adding to locations already spread across Allentown, Bethlehem, Whitehall, Nazareth and surrounding municipalities.
Grand Opening on July 22
The formal grand opening celebration is scheduled for Tuesday, July 22, from 9 to 11 a.m. The event will include a ribbon-cutting ceremony, Z-Card giveaways and appearances by elected officials and representatives from local nonprofit organizations. Grand opening events at new Sheetz locations typically include community fundraising tie-ins and free-food promotions.
