Piscitello's Home Center at 2300 Wood Ave. in Wilson Borough will hold its final day of business on October 30, closing after 68 years as one of the Lehigh Valley's last full-service independent hardware stores. A storewide liquidation sale offering 20 percent off all items begins Tuesday, October 13, and runs through the final day. All sales are final.
A Lehigh Valley Hardware Destination for Nearly Seven Decades
Founded in 1958 in Easton, Piscitello's Home Center moved to its current location near Route 22 and 25th Street in Wilson Borough in 1971, and has since served generations of Wilson Borough and Easton-area homeowners. Unlike big-box competitors, the store stocked not only standard hardware but also lumber, doors, windows, and bathroom and kitchen design services, giving contractors and do-it-yourself homeowners a single destination for projects large and small. The store's long tenure made it a rarity: a family-founded independent hardware operation that survived decades of competition from national chains.

Ownership Changed Hands in 2022
In 2022, the Piscitello family sold the property at 2300 Wood Ave. to Dave and Lisa Colver for $1.55 million. Dave Colver, a former chairman of the Palmer Township Board of Supervisors, took over the business and committed to preserving its identity, computerizing operations, adding a social media presence, and completing a renovation of the store's interior while keeping the doors open. By 2023, the Colvers were celebrating the store's 65th anniversary and describing a business poised to continue. The decision to close the store comes less than four years after that transition.

"So Much More Than a Hardware Store"
The Colvers announced the closing in a message to customers, writing that it was "certainly not an easy post for us to write."
"Piscitello's has been so much more than a hardware store to our family. For generations, Piscitello's has been a part of this community. While our family has only had the privilege of carrying on that legacy for the past 4 years, this store has quickly become such a meaningful part of our lives."
The family credited the counter conversations as much as the merchandise. "From helping you find what you need for a project, to the conversations and laughs at the counter, it's the people we've met and the relationships we've built that we will carry with us and cherish forever," they wrote, thanking customers for "choosing a small, family-owned business" and for "trusting us with your projects." The message also thanked the store's employees, vendors, and friends "for being a part of our story."
The Colvers said they wanted to close out the chapter "with full hearts and an overwhelming sense of gratitude," adding that they hope to see customers in the store over the next few weeks.
What Shoppers Need to Know Before October 30
The liquidation sale takes 20 percent off everything in the store from October 13 through October 30, and the store is keeping updated hours for the final stretch: weekdays from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., Saturdays from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m., and closed Sundays.
- All sales are final during the liquidation period.
- Gift cards, coupons, and open credits must be used by October 30, 2026.
- Special orders already in progress will be fulfilled, but no new special orders will be started.
A Gap in the Local Hardware Landscape
The closure will leave a gap in the regional hardware retail landscape, particularly for the Wilson Borough and Palmer Township communities that have relied on the store for neighborhood-scale service: the kind of counter where someone will walk a homeowner through a repair rather than point them down an aisle. No announcement has been made about the future use of the 2300 Wood Ave. property.
