Musikfest, billed as the largest free music festival in the United States, returns to Bethlehem from July 31 through August 9, 2026, with more than 400 performers and 500 performances spanning every genre across 16 stages, 15 of them free, plus a paid headliner series at the Wind Creek Steel Stage.
Now organized by ArtsQuest and stretching across both sides of the city, the 10-day festival once again anchors the Lehigh Valley’s summer calendar. A preview night on July 30 kicks things off, with the main festival running the following 10 days. Acts range, in ArtsQuest’s own description, from rock to reggae, jazz to indie, and pop to polka, drawing crowds to the cobblestone streets of the Historic Moravian District and the towering blast furnaces of the SteelStacks campus.
When and Where
Musikfest 2026 officially runs July 31 to August 9, with a preview night on July 30. The festival splits across two distinct sections of Bethlehem.
The north side centers on the Historic Moravian District, where free stages line the streets near downtown.
The south side is anchored by the SteelStacks arts campus, set beneath the preserved blast furnaces of the former Bethlehem Steel plant, and includes the Wind Creek Steel Stage at PNC Plaza.
The two areas together host the festival’s sprawling network of stages, food vendors and craft booths over the festival’s run.
The Scale: 400+ Performers, 16 Stages
ArtsQuest says Musikfest features more than 400 performers giving 500 performances across 16 stages, 15 of them free, drawing over 1 million people to Bethlehem each year. The organization promotes the event as the country’s largest free music festival, and it has twice been named the No. 1 music festival in North America in the USA Today/10Best readers’ poll.
The vast majority of performances are free to attend. Festivalgoers can wander between the free stages, known locally as “platzes”, without a ticket, sampling everything from regional bands to national touring acts.

Free vs. Paid: The Wind Creek Steel Stage
While the festival’s defining feature is its free programming, the marquee concerts at the Wind Creek Steel Stage at PNC Plaza on the south side require paid tickets. That stage hosts one headliner each evening of the festival.
ArtsQuest opened ticket sales to members on December 15 and to the general public on December 19. Circle Donors and members receive earlier access to seats.

ArtsQuest describes AJR, which closes the festival, as one of the biggest indie bands in the world, with multi-platinum certifications and billions of streams since 2012. Yellowcard and Taking Back Sunday headline the penultimate night as part of the festival’s rock-leaning programming.
From Steel Town Roots
Musikfest was first held in 1984, conceived as a way to draw visitors to Bethlehem during the summer at a time when the city’s steel industry was in decline. The inaugural event centered on the Moravian District downtown and helped launch what became ArtsQuest, the nonprofit that still produces the festival today.
More than four decades later, the festival has expanded across both sides of the city and added the SteelStacks campus, built on the former Bethlehem Steel site, as a second hub. ArtsQuest describes the event as the nation’s largest non-gated free music festival, with most stages open to the public at no charge.
“Music Unites” is Musikfest’s 2026 theme, a nod to the free, all-ages format that turns Bethlehem into a 10-day celebration.
A First Look at the Free Stages
Beyond the paid headliners, ArtsQuest has offered an early glimpse at acts booked for the free stages. Among the names announced so far are Sixpence None the Richer, Ryan Cabrera, The Clarks, John Hollier & The Reverie, Palmyra, The Foxies and The Warped Band, a tribute to the Warped Tour.
Organizers have said more free-stage acts will be announced in the months leading up to the festival, with the full schedule rounding out the 400-plus total.
