A New Symbol of Lehigh Valley Pride Has Arrived
LVEDC unveiled a 6-foot-by-7-foot “Made in Lehigh Valley” sculpture at the mall on Wednesday, with Crayola, Martin Guitar and Freshpet on hand. The logo is small. What it is advertising is a $57.3 billion economy, 708,000 people, two record-breaking industrial investments, and a region whose recognition has lagged its performance by a decade.

Godfrey Daniels Turned 50 This Year. The Party Outgrew the Room.
Fifty years after two friends opened a 90-seat listening room in a South Side doughnut shop, Godfrey Daniels has been marking the anniversary on bigger stages. The last of those nights is Friday, when The Vanaver Caravan brings America in Motion to the Ice House on Sand Island, with a square dance after it.

She Spent 40 Years Making Things for Other People. In 2015 She Started Painting.
Kristin Mernitz designed children's wear prints, sewed hats, gold leafed ceilings and ran a faux finishing business before she ever painted for herself. Now the Easton artist paints the Vera Neumann scarves she has been collecting since a Santa Monica flea market, and the work is up in the Alpha Building through Oct. 27.

50 Odd Years Comes Home: Big Poppa Brings a Live Rock Show to LehighValley.FM
Al Gilotti, known on the air as Big Poppa, is bringing 50 Odd Years to LehighValley.FM every Monday night from 8 to 11 p.m. It is three hours of deep album cuts, underappreciated bands and new music, hosted live from a Bethlehem home studio, and it is the first original show on the station we launched in August.

She Was Six When Her Family Bought the Limeport Inn. Twenty-Five Years Later She Runs the Kitchen.
Emily Fischer grew up on a Zionsville horse farm and stood on a milk crate to watch the Limeport Inn's line. She worked salads and fryer grill for six years, took over the kitchen around 2017, and wrote the restaurant's weekend specials from a NICU room. Now she is betting a paid-off 1842 building on the next 30 years.

Michelle was 14 when her sister asked her for a haircut, 20 when she became a stylist, and 25 years into the career before she stopped believing she could run a business of her own. In 2023 she opened Brooklyn Axccents LLC on Hamilton Boulevard in Trexlertown, named for the borough she grew up in.
